• The brand has recently approved the Sustainability Commitment Manifesto, which outlines a comprehensive plan of measures to be implemented over the next two years
  • Reducing single-use plastic, promoting the use of materials that have a lesser environmental impact, such as recycled wood, sustainable paints and energy-efficient lighting systems are some of the actions the brand is taking as part of its ‘Agenda 2025’

Ordes (A Coruña), 14 July 2023.- El Sabio is taking another significant step towards sustainability with the approval of a specific action plan with a dual purpose: to promote the circular economy and to encourage the widespread use of sustainable materials. Thus, one noteworthy proposal from the plan is that more than half of the materials used in constructing and renovating new establishments will be recyclable, recycled or sustainable. Additionally, the company aims to minimise plastic usage and emphasise energy conservation.

These measures are part of the Sustainability Commitment Manifesto (SCM) recently approved by the brand. This all-encompassing document aligns with the brand’s broader roadmap for a sustainable future. Its approval marks a significant milestone, as it establishes specific measures to be implemented in the short and medium term, involving all aspects of the business model.  ‘We believe it’s time to take another step forward in our environmental commitment with actions focused on not only our stores but also directed towards our customers so that they can learn about other options to become more sustainable as well,’ explains El Sabio.

Under the guiding principles of its ‘Agenda 2025’, El Sabio’s plan centres around three pillars—reducing, recycling and repairing—translating into various actions:

  • Reducing the use of harmful materials for the environment, such as single-use plastics, at source. To achieve this, the brand will intensify demands on manufacturers and foster collaboration with suppliers. Additionally, all El Sabio stores will continue to promote the use of paper envelopes and bags, particularly for bulk products.

To minimise its energy footprint, the brand will continue to prioritise responsible electricity consumption. LED lighting will be exclusively used in all stores, and lighting solutions will be adopted with lumen and lux levels (quantity and quality of light in the store) that consume less than half of the Kw/h. The company is also committed to working with suppliers to implement efficient systems aimed at ensuring low-consumption and balanced lighting.

  • Recycling: Sustainable construction will be a key component of the firm’s environmental strategy. The majority of construction materials used in new stores and renovations of existing locations will be recyclable, recycled and/or sustainable. The company will promote the use of 100% wooden counters and modules, incorporate recyclable materials like cellulose and others and use sustainable paints.
  • Repairing: From the project’s inception, El Sabio has championed the ecological aspect of quality products (more durable) and repairability (providing agile and efficient after-sales and repair services to distributors and customers). In fact, repairability is intrinsic to the hardware world: ‘We sell products aimed at rehabilitation, repair and recovery. It is the essence of our business,’ highlights El Sabio.

Training for El Sabio collaborators

Implementing the Agenda 2025 actions requires the commitment and dedication of everyone involved with the brand. Thus, the Sustainability Commitment Manifesto places significant importance on the human factor. ‘It is crucial to enhance the knowledge of our team members on techniques related to water- and energy-efficient product use,’ emphasises the brand, which also states that this is the best way to influence customers. By informing and promoting the benefits of efficient materials and practices, both in-store and through channels like social media, we can create change in consumer habits.

‘We want our customers to know they have choices to make a difference, that creating a better planet is within their reach. We believe that many small actions can lead to significant change,’ adds xxxxx.
