Zaragoza, 14 July 2021.- The hardware, DIY, home, country and garden chain El Sabio has opened its first store in Aragón, choosing the city of Zaragoza as the starting point for this region. The store is called El Sabio Mascoticas, located in an area of huge current growth: the rural district of Santa Isabel, just four kilometres from the city centre, and home to over 15,000 people.
The store opened for business just a week ago, on 5 July, but the influx of customers has been so large that owner Agustín Muñoz plans to increase staff at the establishment from next week onwards. “We really have had a lots of customers,” he said, as surprised as he was excited. “We’ve exceeded all our expectations.”
El Sabio Mascoticas, at Avda Santa Isabel, 20, has a sales floor of 180 m2, the immense majority of which -160 m2 – is used for product display. Behind the counter is manager Javier Serrano, who brings with him his experience and knowledge of the hardware and DIY sector.
Specialising in country and garden goods
Muñoz explains that the decision to open the store had a lot to do with the location of the business, as it is right next door to a well-established pet store. “It was the perfect combination,” he said.
El Sabio Mascoticas meets all the standards of the El Sabio chain: customer proximity and a ground-breaking image in the sector. As in the case of the previous seven stores opened by the Group in Spain, it has its own character, provided by the experts – “los sabios” – with lifelong experience in the field.
The Zaragoza store specialises in country and garden products. “There is a lot of demand, as we not only serve the local people in Santa Isabel, but also the surrounding neighbourhoods. We have a catchment area of around 30 kilometres,” stressed the store owner.
Reinforcing the traditional hardware store model
El Sabio started out in 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 crisis, with its first physical stores in A Coruña. The brand is now operating in six of the Spanish regions: Galicia, Asturias, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and now Aragón, where it has opened the eighth store under the brand in Spain. This expansion process is part of a new business strategy driven by the Galician group Internaco, which is aiming to reinforce the traditional hardware store model by transforming these businesses into new shopping experiences and setting up a solid network of stores with a local focus ready to compete strongly on the 21st century market, so saturated with the depersonalisation of large multinational firms.
As the chain continues to expand its network of physical stores, El Sabio also offers all the expertise of local professionals to its clients via its website: www.elsabio.eu
